Grapefruit + Blood Orange + Ginger Beer + Bourbon
Equals my new favorite spring drink! It’s bright from the citrus and a little spicy from the real ginger and ginger beer. April’s Drink Inspired by Music is featuring the band Martha from the UK. I can’t stop listening to their new album Love Keeps Kicking. They make sad songs seem happy and I absolutely cannot get the lyrics out of my head.

Ironically this drink was inspired by their song Orange Juice. The song was stuck in my head for daaaays (thanks, Martha). That’s when I knew I wanted to make a drink for April. Spicy yet refreshing like the sting of heartbreak and suspense of starting over.

The drink is similar to a mule type drink. Typically this includes vodka, ginger beer, and lime. But I switched it up with ginger beer, real ginger, a mix of citrus, and honey. You can also add the optional bourbon, I love the way it tastes with the ginger beer.

In case you were wondering, the green stuff in the drink is thyme! I don’t really think it adds much flavor, I do however think it adds a much needed contrast in color.

I’ve really been wanting to try making my own ginger beer (maybe a future post??) but until then, use you’re favorite store bought kind! I’m bummed Ohio City Soda doesn’t make their soda anymore, they were a great Cleveland company. My personal favorites are Fever Tree and Boylan – technically it’s a ginger ale, but I think it rocks.

Are you going to make the Martha? Be sure to leave a comment with any questions or suggestions, I love hearing your thoughts!
